On November 4, 2008, the United States Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit affirmed a jury verdict in favor of Charles Gill against Geoff Maciejewski, a University of Minnesota Police Officer. The appellate court held: "[The] evidence fully supports the jury's finding of excessive force and is sufficient to withstand Maciejewski's [judgment as a matter of law] motion." In addition, the court rejected all of defendant Maciejewski's evidentiary arguments and affirmed the district court's award of attorneys' fees and costs in the amount of $239,788.50.
