Wendy Canaday has experience defending large corporations nationwide in products liability and commercial litigation.
In products liability, Wendy’s practice focuses primarily on defending manufacturers of residential and commercial burglar and fire alarm systems, and stand-alone smoke detectors. She also defends cases against manufacturers of industrial machinery, small appliances, gas controls and other HVAC-related products, typically involving fires and explosions.
In commercial litigation, Wendy has experience defending cases involving lender liability, breach of contract, and securities fraud.
Wendy joined Flynn, Gaskins & Bennett in 2001, after completing a one-year court clerkship for Minnesota’s Tenth Judicial District. She was made a partner in 2008.
Wendy has been recognized as a “Rising Star” by Minnesota Law & Politics.
Wendy grew up in Fort Worth, Texas. She graduated from Texas Christian University with a Bachelor in Business Administration, cum laude, in 1997. She attended law school at Drake University, graduating with honors in 2000.At Drake, Wendy was the Managing Editor of the Drake Law Review. Representative Experience : Okrakene v. Minnesota FAIR Plan,Minnesota, appellate court upheld summary judgment for insurer finding insurance policy was not in effect at time of loss.
Shapiro v. Honeywell, Massachusetts, partial summary judgment on claims of defective installation of security alarm components.
Valley Forge Ins. Co. v. Honeywell, U.S. District Court, Kentucky, mistrial and award of defense costs in significant property damage case.
Holmes v. Honeywell, Indiana, summary judgment for manufacturer of gas control allegedly involved in home explosion resulting in death of homeowner based on statute of repose for improvements to real property.
