Rob handles a wide variety of litigation involving product liability defense, commercial disputes, insurance coverage and other defense matters. He has litigated state and federal cases of varying sizes throughout Minnesota and the United States. He has represented clients as counsel pro hac vice in over a dozen states in matters involving death, personal injury, property damage and significant business loss.

Rob received a Bachelor of Arts degree summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa from Boston University in 1997. He obtained his Juris Doctor degree from Georgetown University Law Center in 2001. During law school, Rob worked as Assistant to the Executive Director of Washington Area Lawyers for the Arts (WALA), an organization supporting artists and arts-related organizations in the Washington, DC area.

Recent Cases

Saarela v. Minnesota FAIR Plan, Case No. 27-CV-06-8852 (Minn. Dist. Ct. 2007): With Bradley Ayers, tried case and obtained defense verdict in insurance coverage dispute. Previously obtained favorable summary judgment ruling dismissing claims of bad faith, misrepresentation and violation of Unfair Claims Practices Act.

Crotteau v. Emerson Elec. Co., Case No. 05-008904 (Minn. Dist. Ct. 2006): On behalf of valve manufacturer, obtained partial summary judgment as to strict liability and breach of warranty claims, followed by dismissal of remaining failure to warn claim on the first day of trial.

Culnane v. Emerson Elec. Co., Case No. 13-1-05 Bncv (Vt. Sup. Ct. 2006): Obtained summary judgment for gas control manufacturer in fire case.

Mallinger v. Canons Regular of the Order of the Holy Cross, Province of St. Odilia, Case No. C1-06-4460 (Minn. Dist. Ct. 2006): Obtained Rule 12 dismissal of purported class action commenced against religious order.

Shamblott v. Jusczak, et al., Case No. 05-10380 (Minn. Dist. Ct. 2006): Summary judgment for defendant landlord in purported mold exposure personal injury case.

Ward v. Freiderich, 2006 WL 44280 (Minn. Ct. App. Jan. 10, 2006): Favorable verdict in defense of personal injury claim upheld on appeal.

Congress Fin. Corp. v. Nat’l Union Fire Ins. Co., Case No. CJ-03-6769 (Minn. Dist. Ct. 2005): Summary judgment for insurer in Miller v. Shugart coverage dispute involving Professional Services Liability Policy.

Hies v. Acordia of Minnesota, Inc., Case No. 05-C-740-S (W.D. Wisc. 2005): Representing defendant employer in nonsolicitation case, obtained transfer of employee’s preemptive Wisconsin declaratory judgment action to Minnesota, along with rejection of application of plaintiff-favorable Wisconsin law to dispute.

Plante v. Foster Klima & Co., LLC, CT-04-015562 (Minn. Dist. Ct. 2005): With Hal Shillingstad, obtained defense verdict on oppression and frustration of continued employment claims under the Minnesota Limited Liability Company Act.
